Youth Sport Trust seeks squad STARS

Wednesday, 27 August 2008

UK School Games 2007We are seeking applications our new STARS (Supporting Talented Athletes on the Road to Success)Squad Scholarship programme. To be considered, schools must have:

  • At least four high-performing young athletes in any sport.
  • A desire and commitment to developing a Squad culture.
  • An understanding of the specific difficulties facing their  talented young athletes.

Why are we launching STARS Scholarships?

Potential Elite Athletes often appear in clusters rather than as isolated performers. This is no co-incidence. Talented young people working together can drive, inspire, challenge and support each other to achieve their potential.

The Scholarship focuses on developing the mental side of elite performance. Becoming a champion involves natural talent but turning talent into triumph requires: ambition, hard work, coaching, determination and support.

How much is the STARS Scholarship?

STARS Scholarship grants are for £5,000. This grant is to be used to develop and support a STARS Squad.

Who can Apply?

Applications are sought from Directors of Specialism, Heads of PE and Headteachers. To apply, schools must have at least four young people performing at the highest level in their sports. They need not be high achievers in the same sport or the same year-group. In fact we actively encourage applications from schools which have a diverse range of high-performing young athletes.
