Paralympic Games 2008

Simon RichardsonBritain’s Paralympic bid got off to flying start yesterday with Team GB winning four gold medals on the first day of action.

Cyclists Simon Richardson, Aileen McGlynn and Darren Kenny broke world records and Swimmer Sascha Kindred won the 200m individual medley SM6 in a new world record.

Simon won the LC3/4 1km time trial in a new world best, while 38-year-old Danny, shattered his own CP3 world record by six seconds before winning the individual pursuit. Tandem rider Aileen retained her B&VI 1-3 1km time trial title.

Sascha smashed the world record, winning Britain's first swimming gold in the 200m individual medley SM6.

Elsewhere Nigel Murray made an excellent start in his attempt to regain the boccia title winning both his opening matches and the men's basketball team beat China 81-34 in their opening game.

Everyone at the Youth Sport Trust would like to congratulate all the Paralympic GB medalists and wish the rest of Team GB every success in Beijing.
