BBC Young Sports Personality 2007 - The Finalists

Finalist Paul Drinkhall (Table Tennis)The Youth Sport Trust is proud to continue its support of the prestigious BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year Award, which recognises the cream of Britain’s outstanding young sporting talent.

As part of the judging panel, the Youth Sport Trust helped narrow the finalists down to ten with the Award being announced  live on BBC1  on  the evening of  Sunday 9th December at  the NEC in Birmingham.

The celebration forms part of the BBC’s annual Sports Personality of the Year Award and will be announced during a star-studded television broadcast in front of the world’s media.

Andy Martin, the Youth Sport Trust’s Head of Olympic and Paralympic Development, was among the judging panel which also featured BBC Sportsround’s Jake Humphrey and television presenter John Inverdale as well as 2001 Young Sports Personality winner Amy Spencer.

The finalists for the BBC’s Young Sports Personality of the Year Award, in alphabetical order, are:

George Atkins (Cycling)
Hollie Avil (Triathlon)
Thomas Daley (Diving)
Paul Drinkhall (Table Tennis)
James Harris (Cricket)
Sandra Hyslop (Canoeing/Kayaking)
Asha Philip (Athletics)
Bradley Smith (Motorsport)
Claire Warne (Disability Swimming)
Michael White (Snooker)

Andy Martin said: “As ever, the shortlist features some of the country’s most outstanding young athletes and it’s been an incredibly difficult selection process given just how much talent there is out there across a wide variety of sports.

“Paul [Drinkhall] and Claire [Warne] competed at this year’s UK School Games, in Coventry, while all the finalists are world and/or European medallists at their sport, either at junior or senior level.

"There were in excess of 50 nominations all of which have performed at national/international level.

“Each one deserves massive credit for getting this far and it will be fascinating to see who actually takes the top prize in December.”

“The Youth Sport Trust is committed to playing an integral part in supporting our young athletes and help turn them into champions of the future and we are delighted to continue supporting the BBC’s Young Sports Personality of the Year Award.”
